Third edition launched of ISO Award for Higher Education in Standardization

ISO is continuing its encouragement of standardization as a topic for future managers, scientists and engineers by launching the third edition of its award for successful standardization programmes in higher education.
The 2011 ISO Award for Higher Education in Standardization aims to raise awareness of the importance of standardization worldwide by supporting institutions of higher education that have developed and implemented successful programmes related to standardization as a tool to access world markets, transfer technology and promote good business practice and sustainable development.
ISO Secretary General Rob Steele comments, Innovation and new technologies depend more than ever on International Standards that create a world market for them and which act as vehicles for their dissemination. Knowledge of the economic, technical and social importance and benefits of standards therefore become imperative in the curricula of future managers, scientists and technologists.
The award comprises a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize of 15000 Swiss francs. It is co-sponsored by ISO and the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC), the ISO member for Japan.
The nomination of candidates must be made by 28 February 2011 to the ISO Secretary-General by the national standards institutes that make up ISOs worldwide membership. The deadline for the subsequent receipt of documented applications for the award is 13 May 2011. The award selection committee consists of eminent personalities from international organizations for education, from academia, the economic sphere and the media.
The award is in line with the ISO Strategic Plan 2011 2015, which calls for action to strengthen cooperation with educational institutions through development of curricula on standardization and academic contributions to the standards development process.
